FAQ

  • Is there anything I should do before my tuning appointment?
Yes! Please remove any items off the top and sides of the piano. We also recommend that pets be taken out or moved to another room, as the sound can often bother them. Additionally, please do not schedule any cleaning on the same day, as vacuums or other loud tools can make a piano difficult to tune.
  • How often do I need to tune my piano?
At the minimum, we recommend tuning your piano every 6 months to a year. However, if you have musicians or piano students in the household, it is recommended that you tune more frequently- around 3-4 times a year to ensure that it is kept at proper pitch. If you have recently moved your piano, it will most often require another tuning.
  • Why does a piano go out of tune?
While pianos can go out of tune for a variety of reasons, by far the most common are the humidity fluctuations that come with a change in seasons. As humidity changes, the wood in a piano can expand or contract, pushing the pitch either sharp or flat.
  • I haven't tuned my piano in a long time. Can you tune it?
Yes! With a few rare exceptions, most pianos can be tuned regardless of how long it has been. However, if your piano has been out of tune for a very long time, it will often take more than one tuning to bring it back to the correct pitch. If your piano has this issue, we can discuss return rates for tunings like this.
  • How do I take care of my piano and keep it in tune for longer?
Avoid keeping your piano near windows or radiators, and try to keep it away from direct sunlight. Pianos go out of tune as the humidity changes, so keeping it away from any sources of heat or humidity will maintain the pitch for longer. It is also suggested that you clean your piano to keep dust and grime from accumulating. Cleaning should be done with a smooth cloth, avoiding the use of any cleaning products.
